It expands whenever <strong>power centralizes<\/strong> and performance is reduced to a single metric:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Power narrows to one scoreboard<\/strong>\u2014money, influence, KPIs.<br><em>Hustle maximizers<\/em> and <em>power brokers<\/em> win by shrinking the game and externalizing costs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Procedure outranks judgment.<\/strong><br>Rules multiply; common sense shrinks. A <strong>Bureaucratic System Mentality (BSM)<\/strong> takes hold.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>BSM is a belief\u2013incentive system that prioritizes procedure over value and rule proliferation over common-sense spontaneity. Because any system of rules is either inconsistent or incomplete (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/G%C3%B6del%27s_completeness_theorem\">G\u00f6del&#8217;s incompleteness<\/a>), BSM spreads new rules like tumor, while branding common sense &#8220;unprovable&#8221;. In the end it divides society like in Orwell&#8217;s <em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Animal_Farm\">Animal Farm<\/a><\/em> and creates shortages like in Calhoun\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Behavioral_sink\">behavioral sink<\/a>,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Organizations fall not from scarcity, but from <strong>bureaucracy<\/strong>: when rules outrun values, shortages begin.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Getting Back to Common Sense<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Common sense lives where <strong>breadth<\/strong> meets <strong>speed<\/strong>. To move from Hydra to Unicorn:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Use dialectics to <a href=\"https:\/\/dialexity.com\/blog\/a-dialectical-case-for-rethinking-regulation\/\">unstick single-metric thinking<\/a>.<\/strong><br>Hold opposing values long enough to synthesize better options\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/dialexity.com\/blog\/turn-policies-into-growth-maps\/\">beyond KPI dominance<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Make risk travel upward &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/%40bard_bing\/a-summary-of-skin-in-the-game-by-nassim-nicholas-taleb-c71d35370620\">Skin in the Game principle<\/a> <\/strong><br>If you make the mess, you bear the cost\u2014\u00e0 la the <a href=\"https:\/\/one.oecd.org\/document\/OCDE\/GD(92)81\/En\/pdf\">OECD\u2019s polluter-pays principle<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Put authors at the frontline<\/strong> &#8211; \u2018go and see\u2019: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lean.org\/lexicon-terms\/genchi-genbutsu\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\"><strong>Toyota\u2019s Genchi Genbutsu<\/strong><\/a><br>Policy is made where it\u2019s lived\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.russellsage.org\/publications\/book\/street-level-bureaucracy?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">Street-Level Bureaucracy<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Educating beyond BSM (the long game)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Bureaucracy feeds on mass ignorance: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/6-xRk3xAI1o\">consumerism<\/a>, rule-based schooling, centralized definitions of \u201cgood\/bad,\u201d and compliance as virtue.
