Iran, AI, and the Missing Counter-Agents

Recent U.S.–Israel actions against Iran (Feb 28, 2026) resemble AI agentic misalignment — optimizing a goal so efficiently that broader values disappear.

In the name of peace, we start war. Pure rationality destroys the very essence in whose name it acts. The doctrine of “Existential Security Through Control” is flawed.

The attached dialectical wheel shows how this logic drifts toward dehumanization and fear-driven escalation (T1 — red zone). The missing counter-agent lies diagonally: Legitimacy Through Human Dignity and Dialogue (A1 — green zone).

Such wheels are built automatically using Eye Opener: A Systems Thinking Tool for Seeing More. They help us check our sanity. In this case, USA and Israel did not pass the test. Escalation (through decapitation!) during negotiation reflects anti-humanization — especially when US intel did not suggest Iran was preparing a preemptive strike.

This is what AI researchers observe when agents absolutize their goals. It also echoes the push for fully autonomous AI warfare systems.

The answer is not granting more power to agents that demand control, but designing counter-agents that constrain them.

How do we build that counterforce?
